Study OTTV using Sketchup

Recently I discovered the code of practice of Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) of Building 1995 is still using and got to study it again.

OTTV is the value to evaluate the energy efficiency of a building by investigating how much heat gain or loss through the building envelope. A form calculating this value for commercial building is required to be submitted to the Building Authority for approval under the building (energy efficency) regulation. The method of calculation can be found in the code. A example building and calculation is attached at the end of the code.

I felt a bit difficult to study the example because the drawing in the code is not very clear. Details have to be derived from calculation. With more leisure and new technology today, I decided to turn the sample building into a Sketchup model.

OTTV consist of several parameters. They include the area of shaded and unshaded fenestration, area of different type of opaque wall for each elevations and the area of roof. It is a good idea to use Sketchup to calculate those areas. I can use a plug-in like 'AreaTextTag' to generate area reports for calculation.

To make the model more useful, I made everything into component that volume can be shown in the entity info dialogue box when clicking on it. Doing this not only let me calculate the total volume of concrete but also let the model enable for 3d printing in future. I have finished the modelling and uploaded it to 3d warehouse. The model can be download here.
